Tooling Engineer 3-5 month contract opportunity to be responsible for managing Device Development Support (DDS) and injection mold projects through quoting, mold design, construction, debugging, process development, qualification and validation.

Must have:

  • Experience working with more complex mechanical molds - multi-shot, complex actions, high-tolerance, multi-stage ejection, complex cooling, etc. (not necessarily from the medical device industry)
  • Understand high-volume molding - fact cycling, high-cavitation, end of arm tooling, press selection and add-on functionality
  • MS Office experience
  • Experience soliciting quotes from tooling vendors
  • Ability to define mold specifications
  • Experience with a range of tooling vendors
  • Solid understanding of types of molds, ejection systems, gates, runner and injection systems, materials and features
  • DFM experience - providing guidance and direction on how to improve a component for molding and mold design.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in mold design and/or construction for tight tolerance, and plastic components

Preference to applicants with:

  • Experience with purchase requisitions and order placement within purchasing systems
  • Computer aided engineering (CAE) experience as part of working engineering analysis tasks
  • This includes finite element analysis (FEA) computational fluid dynamics (MBD) durability and optimization
  • Microsoft Project experience
  • Development and maintenance of tooling construction timelines in MS Project.
  • Understands mold process validation
  • Experience preparing purchase requisitions and order placements within purchasing systems
  • Negotiating skills
  • Experience evaluating suppliers for the approved vendor list
  • Nice to Have - processing, metrology and/or automation experience
  • Degree BSME
  • Proficiency in Creo or Solidworks in addition to CAE
